Portus + Whitton were appointed by the JW Sly and Sons Charitable Trust to help design an affordable Homes scheme on a steeply sloping former builders yard close to the centre of Northleach.
Working with Mungo Park Architects two short terraces were built stepping down the slope. Low Cotswold stone walls define property boundaries and retain the land to create usable space whilst also complimenting the Cotswold vernacular architecture. Shared use principles were adopted to reduce the visual impact of vehicular access and car parking and create a pedestrian friendly environment. The hard landscape structure is softened by the organic curves of the layout and pockets of soft landscape.
The scheme won a CPRE Gloucestershire Award in 2015.
