This care village development replaced the former Dow research laboratory. The new scheme, designed with Tyack Architects and PRC Architects, occupies the original development footprint in such a way that no additional impact is made on either the conservation area or AONB.
The landscape scheme enhances and restores existing features such as the lake, meadowland and boundary woodland. The wider site includes a non-statutory County Wildlife Site running along the course of a chalk stream of high ecological value. Portus + Whitton worked with ecology consultants to prepare a management and public access plan in consultation with the Environment Agency, BBOWT, the LPA and other consultees. This scheme included the restoration of the rare chalk stream, improvements to chalk pasture and woodland management for wildlife.
