This is a mid-19th century walled garden set within the Registered Great Tew Park. We were involved in preparing planning proposals for the restoration of the garden as the centrepiece of an exclusive restaurant and holiday pavilions, now granted permission.
The work included a full landscape and visual impact assessment as a means to guiding the design process, involving close consultation throughout with Historic England and the LPA’s officers.
The proposals contrast a very contemporary design approach to the modern insertions with a careful historical approach to the refurbishment work. The design goes to great lengths to protect the site’s character and setting, involving for example, concealing all cars within an underground car park.
The walled gardens will sit at the heart of the revitalised estate, providing fruit, vegetables and flowers for the restaurant as well as a beautiful garden accessible to the public.
