Portus + Whitton have worked on many sensitive and highly protected landscapes.

The broad range of projects have included gardens for internationally well-known addresses in Central London through to numerous parklands and gardens throughout England, many of which are owned and managed by the National Trust. The nature of these projects range from the preparation of detailed restoration proposals, for example the Capability Brown designed landscape at Croome Park through to the research and reconstruction of the gardens to the front and rear of Wordsworth House in Cockermouth.

We have also worked on numerous projects specialising in visitor experience, i.e. the journey the visitor takes from the initial point of arrival, the approach to the visitor entrance, pedestrian circulation to and from the historic building and catering facilities. Introducing new structures into historic landscapes requires a thorough understanding of the many constraints that are typically found before developing proposals that respect the setting and allow popular sites to accommodate large numbers of visitors and their vehicles whilst minimising their impact.
